Bajo Picos Route (Mogrovejo)

Bajo Picos Route (Mogrovejo)

The itinerary of this route begins and ends in the village of Mogrovejo, in the heart of the Camaleño Valley. The excursion is worthwhile from the beginning, since Mogrovejo was declared a Site of Cultural Interest in 1985. The medieval tower and the traditional building of the old school, converted into a museum of the rural school, are two essential visits that stand out due to its careful architecture.

Naturea Cantabria offers a new guided route in Liébana, the Bajo los Picos route. This circular low difficulty route starts and ends in Mogrovejo, in the municipality of Camaleño. There are still places available and the price per person is 7 €.

Through a walk of little difficulty, the route allows to recognize some of the most representative forests of the region, with the added value of being at the foot of the eastern massif of the Picos de Europa, in the massif of Andara.

As it is a circular route, it can be walked in both directions, going through mature oak and beech forests, riverside forests that border the river Belondio and its main tributaries, which come directly from some of the headwaters of the highest peaks of Picos de Europa. Likewise, we will discover large and unique tree species, as well as a wide diversity of flora and fauna, which together with the changing landscape, depending on the altitude and orientation, makes the route different at each time of the year.
